Disruptive Technologies

What is a disruptive technology?

Put simply, it’s a technology that has the potential to change the way we do everyday things.  It has the potential to impact the economy, the way we interact with each other, our environment, and maybe even our relationships.  Disruptive technologies are things that change the world….  Common examples are cellular phones, the internet, even Facebook is a disruptive technology.

I had the privilege of participating in a panel discussion (Jamie Bass, David Hill, and Kent Parker) about disruptive technologies that will impact the Evansville Indiana area.  Our focus for this meeting was not to grip people with fear on how their lives are going to change, but the purpose was to encourage entrepreneurs to leverage Evansville’s strengths in Manufacturing, Retail, Logistics, Healthcare, and Education to harness the future.

What’s the best way to prevent yourself or your industry from becoming obsolete?  Lean into it.  Drive the technology.  Steer the boat.  Evansville has a rich history and a significant momentum built up already…..  Let’s not skip a beat and use our current momentum to sling-shot to the future!
